Biography

Marci the Artist

Marci formerly earned a scholarship in her senior year of high school and attended Los Angeles Institute of the Arts - Walt Disney. Although her passion has always been art, she put her talent aside to raise her two sons by working as an executive in various horticulture and manufacturing businesses. Once her sons left home, she spent time volunteering as an Art Therapist for the Oncology Department of a West coast hospital.

The artist has shown her work throughout Florida and the Northeast for the past decade. She has appeared and participated in the International Chalk Festival in Sarasota, Bradenton, Tampa, and Wynwood, Florida. Additionally, she has volunteered her time and talents to create murals in several schools for the Manatee County school district.

Mike and Marci Yocum opened the art gallery on July 1, 2021. The expansion of the Nature Coast Art School took place on September 1, 2021. Mike has inspired and encouraged Marci to paint, write and illustrate throughout their relationship. The couple traveled the barrier reef in their catamaran boat for five years getting ideas to write, illustrate and publish "Bear Goes to the Bahamas". The book's main character is Bear, the family's dog and is a fourth grade reading level book on the ocean's delicate eco system and global warming.

Marci is a member of the Society of Illustrators in New York City, NY where she travels to keep up with the world of authors and illustrators!
